I don't know why public universities charge out of state students so much. It's like 4-5x what they charge in state students. Such a ripoff.

Also, if you subtract the $1-2k per year in books, tuition gets $4-10k cheaper

When it comes to education it seems the administration grows at a faster rate than enrollment. Bureaucracies are not very diligent when it comes to budgeting.

This is where it starts. Now most universities have become a slush fund for profs and staff who create classes like “The Feminist Critique Of Christianity” , “The Science Of Superheroes” , “Lady Gaga and the Sociology of Fame” . Yep you're getting a lot back for those dollars. And this doesn't even begin to touch on where the political bend of the profs and staff lead.

Yep, freaking government ponzi scheme. Folks that can afford to cash flow it will and the ones that can't will borrow like drunken sailors with little regard for when the bill comes due at some point. Meanwhile the schools always collect the money and then passes it along to staff and faculty that is largely liberal or outright socialist whose number one goal is changing our country for the worse, exhibit A Bernie Sanders and his mushbrain followers. This reminds me that my daughters tuition is due

Sociology degrees are supplementing the engineering degrees. So the answer is that it depends on what you are paying for.
