Knoxville, plenty of great breweries and restaurants, lots of hiking nearby in the Smoky Mountains or just national forests if you want less crowds. The obvious Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg connection if you're into touristy shite. That said, catch Gatlinburg on a slower day (not a weekend) and you can have some fun wine and moonshine tasting.

I've heard that helen is one of the best restaurants in town, what is it that makes it so? My wife and I wanted to do a date night tomorrow and we narrowed it down to helen or bistro 218 but we went with b218. I do believe we'll hit helen at some point in the coming months but I'm just curious what makes it get all the fuss it does.

Helen is Chef Rob McDaniel who was as Springhouse on Lake Martin. The menu showcases seasonal, southern veggies and rotating proteins. Don't skip out on the chicken and white sauce. I think it is the best in town. Personally, I would see if it is too late to change your mind. Sit at the bar even. IMO, B218 hasn't been the same since the pandemic. For a date night I would go Helen, Le Fresca or GianMarco's (both Italian), one of Frank Stitt's restaurants, or a Chris Hastings restaurant before even thinking about Bistro 218.

And going back to the BHM schedule, I would do something other than The Essential for lunch on Saturday. Maybe Saw's in Homewood or Avondale or Sam's Super Sandwiches in Homewood.

Juneau: Scenery, booze, food, nature.

Negatives: Rain. Not heavy, just often. Half the time you can't see the scenery, so its just booze, food and history, which you can find in any town in the country.

Positives: There's an outdoor activity you can do for all seasons. Skiing in the winter. Mountain Biking in the spring and fall. Whitewater rafting in the summer. My weekends now are better than my vacations when I lived in the South. I used to live for my weekly trip to Davis Wade Stadium during football season. Now, I barely care about the results.

Negatives: One of the most isolated metropolitan areas in America. You're at least 5 hours from the nearest metro (SLC), so if you're wanting to hit many cities in one trip, this ain't the place to start. Oh, and the food sucks here.
