Sheriff’s offices vs police depts disparity on lockdowns

I’ve noticed that the police departments are the ones that you hear about enforcing the lockdowns by making arrests, tickets, forcing closures, etc.

The sheriff’s departments are the ones saying they will not enforce the lockdown orders. Many are making it publicly and widely known as well.

There’s obviously one difference. The sheriff is elected by the people and is too political to enforce the orders. If they enforce the orders people won’t vote for them. The police chief/commissioner is appointed by the mayor, with influence from other high state officials I am sure.

I think the governors and mayors of the police departments are putting on the pressure to enforce these police chiefs to enforce the emergency orders by threatening maybe to cut funding or having a replacement come in. I work in LE in a parish with no police department and my department isn’t enforcing really anything.

Anyone else think the city officials are threatening these guys? Or do I have this all wrong?
