Different vairiities, different times. I intentionally planted three different ones to extend eating time but one died. I think the name of the variety was something st ann. I still have an ovarian and a Brown's select.

It's commonl knowledge that the later they mature, the sweeter they taste. Like LuckySonSo said, a cold snap. I used to think that was just something someone's grandfather started saying but have read that the cold temp actually triggers something domdomwith the sugar. Someone else may know, exactly.
