My fiancé and I are headed to Sandals St. Lucia after our wedding in a couple weeks for our honeymoon. My question is does anyone have any recommendations for excursions/adventures? I know most everything on resort is free but I imagine after a couple days you might be looking for something different off-site. The website lists a bunch of different excursions through third-party companies so just looking for some advice. Also, how much cash should I bring? I'll have my credit cards but just seeing if taking out cash beforehand is necessary. Any other tips appreciated.

We stayed at Sandals Grande - had an awesome time.... Here are a couple of excursions that we did that I would def recommend.

1) The Treetop Zip Line (there is a certain guide you want though... Can't remember his name, its something simple like Bob, but the dude is great...he is the main guide but has 1 or 2 days off during the week so you will need to ask about that & schedule on a day he works)

2) Simon Says Tour --- I didn't see this one listed on their site anymore but I'm sure they still have it since its always been one of the most popular. Its a boat tour that stops off for snorkeling, hot spring mud bath, etc... a good tour to get a lot of stuff in one afternoon.

A lot of people will say to book these before you go but we booked while we were there... I wanted to get there and see what it was all about before I planned out my week.

** Also I would definitely recommend the helicopter transfer from airport to resort.. It cost $150/pp but was well worth it. The bus shuttle from airport to Sandals Resorts is nearly 2hrs. After a morning of traveling the last thing I wanted to do was get on a crowded bus for 2hrs. took the heli and were having a drink by the pool 90 min before the bus arrived. Plus the ride is a tour so you get to see and learn about a lot of stuff on the flight over. (we actually ended up doing the helicopter on the ride back to airport as well)

sorry for the long post...If I think of anything else I'll let you know..

Any links for this? Do they only do sandals?

I've heard different reviews on the helicopter transfer. Some say it is worth it, some say it's not. I guess it just depends on who you are. I think we are just going to save the money and take the bus.

sorry - no link... I heard about it from my cousin and then booked it through Sandals by simply asking about it when I had them on the phone. I've never seen it advertised anywhere. I'm pretty sure they do any resort though. They drop you off at a smaller airport on other side of island from main airport and you are picked up in a personal car and then taken to the resort. I would just ask whoever you booked through.

I'm poor so I took the bus. It was not crowded per se, plenty of room. It also stopped at a few places where you could take pictures and what not, plus you get to see the island from the ground. I had no complaints with it.

Brother went there on his honeymoon a few years ago. Beautiful place from the pictures I've seen, but a local banana farmer almost machete'ed my brother while they were on an island tour...

The place I am looking at going is only 80 min from UVF... so it's only $100 for a private cab ride.

I think unless I went to a resort much further away I'll stick with the private cab

I'm heading down there also for my honeymoon. We are staying at the Grande. I heard the Joe knows is good but i havent really researched it

just saw this... I think "Simon Says" & "Joe Knows" are the same tour just operated by different people.... We did Simon Says and even though it POURED on us during the boat ride, it was still a great time. So if either of these are offered I would definitely recommend,

yeah that's not bad - we were going to do the cab back to airport but when it came time to leave we just didn't want to... I think the cab & busses departed at around 10am and if we took the helicopter we didn't leave until 1pm. So we sent our luggage with the busses and kicked it by the pool for 3 more hours

Anybody that did the Joe Knows Tour find it trashy? I've read good reviews and bad reviews about it. Lot say there's tons of things they take you to do but that their humor is crude and they get annoying with all the whooping/driving by beaches and making people yell "Joe Knows" for marketing themselves.

The free rum, seeing all the sights, and travel by boat sounds worthwhile but I just want to make sure it's something I'll enjoy and not get annoyed with before purchasing. People also mentioned not to eat the lunch because they got food poisoning.

Like I said earlier... I don't know about "Joe Knows" but "Simon Says" was a lot of fun. Being that they are basically the same thing, I don't see how JK wouldn't be fun. I wouldn't let bad reviews sway you too much.... sure there are going to be some bad experiences with the number of tours they put on each year. Most reviews are always negative because that's just how people work.. something great happens & we say nothing, but let the guide look at you wrong and you're gonna go write a bad review. Trust me, with the amount people that travel to Sandals and places alike, they would not be affiliated with excursions that get consistent bad reviews.

So do you book all these excursions when you arrive or do you do it beforehand?

Were you the one going in June? If so, I remember you were going the same date as us. You will probably see us on the bus

Yep, June 8th- 15th I think. I'll be on the bus probably wearing a Mississippi state t shirt.

We will be getting there on the 9th so I won't be riding with you. Shoot me an e-mail and as it gets closer, I'll let you know our plans

I thought the same thing going into it, especially after we saw them whooping/hollering up and down the beach before they dropped everyone off at the resort. But our guides weren't over the top at all and I actually felt very safe with them in the boat. They will give you as much rum and rum punch as you can handle, but the hooting/hollering/douchey stuff really isn't until the last few minutes of the trip right before the end of the trip. I caveat everything in my review with the fact that we actually had Mr. JOE KNOWS himself on our boat that day, with his wife and daughter... so we may have gotten the A+++ crew.

Just got back in April from the Sandals Grande. Make sure you rent a beach cabana for at least one day. I hate the sand so sitting up in one of these bed type things is great. They also have a cabana girl who brings you drinks and lunch from whichever restaurant you want. It's worth it just so you don't have to get up early in the morning and go reserve a beach chair with a towel.
