River House construction begins in Nicholson Corridor

Developers for the long-delayed River House mixed-use development planned on the site of the former Prince Murat Hotel on Nicholson Drive officially began construction on Aug. 17.
The $26 million development will include 224 luxury apartments in two four-story buildings, a 4,600 square foot clubhouse a 15,000 square foot retail building and a 34,000 square foot, three-story office building which will front Nicholson Drive. Organek says he expects the development to be completed by the end of 2016.
River House is the latest development to break ground in the Nicholson Corridor, which is being revitalized by multiple public and private developers, to connect LSU with downtown Baton Rouge. It will be directly across the street from the Water Campus, and close to the proposed River District...

Planning Commission approves rezoning to block controversial barge-cleaning facility
The East Baton Rouge Parish Planning Commission voted 6-3 Monday (Aug. 17) to rezone property that would prevent the construction of a barge-cleaning facility near residential neighborhoods and LSU, multiple media outlets reported Tuesday morning.
But the rezoning the 60-acre tract still must be approved Wednesday (Aug. 19) by the Metro Council before it can go into effect.
