We need more men like him.
Rest in peace.

battleship that exploded and sank
I know nobody else cares, but it didn't just "explode." I hate this about writers. The Japanese sank it. People will claim I'm being pedantic, I'm sure, but nobody reads more than the byline unless they're brunching on a Sunday. Nobody reads anything longer than two sentences except for old dudes like moi.
Call it what it is, up front. Who writes articles about merchant ships slipping beneath the waves due to German submarine activity in the Atlantic? It's horseshite.
RIP Conter.

His interviews on YouTube are great. So sad to see a legend like him pass away.

Lt Commander Lou Conter, departing. (Ships bell tolls).

Conter recalled how one bomb penetrated steel decks 13 minutes into the battle and set off over 1 million pounds of gunpowder stored below.
The explosion lifted the battleship 30 to 40 feet out of the water, he said during a 2008 oral history interview stored at the Library of Congress. Everything was on fire from the mainmast forward, he said.
RIP
