Make sure cuff size is right-bigger folks +200/250 lbs likely need larger cuff. I also prefer upper arm cuff and ask patients to skip the wrist monitors since office comparison always done with upper arm cuff. May not matter-just my preference last 16 years.

Upper arm cuffs have always been painful to me-even the ones that are the right size--and actually make my arm sore the next day. I realize there's some question about the accuracy of wrist monitors, but I am far more likely to use it consistently than I would be an upper arm monitor

Wieght control: Ask your Doc to switch your BP med to Telmisartan.

HBP: Take plenty of Magnesium and get a good liquid fish oil supp and get 3 Grams combined EPA/DHA daily.

At your age, you need to start taking your healthcare more serious and invest in it more than upkeep on a car. Get a glucose monitor and a BP monitor and keep track of both. Ask for a full Lipid profile blood test and a Calcium Score CT scan of your heart. Get your IGF-1, Testosterone and Estradiol levels checked as well.

pimp, try an Omron b/p arm cuff. I bought one a few years ago and then stopped using it. My cardiologist wanted me to start monitoring my b/p again. I took the cuff to my internist when I had a physical and he took my b/p with his equipment and then with the Omron. It was right on. You can get one at CVS for less than $100.

Good luck!

I feel like I may have walked myself to a great resting heart rate .
Definitely possible

But that doesn't necessarily mean I don't have high blood pressure, right?
Correct.

Realistically these are questions for your doctor. You're 50 you need to get the BP handled before you stroke out.
