There are so many variables that its hard to second guess how someone else deals with this.
Personalities, parental responsibilities, finances, health issues, health insurance, mutual hobbies, dynamics with friends and family, etc.
There are many reasons to marry and many not to... If you love your friends or family, just support them however you can, whatever they choose.

Wife and I both have discussed this. Neither of us will remarry but will have a string of “special friends” until we are dead.

I lost my wife of 41 years to cancer a month ago. Nights and weekends are brutal. All of our friends are married and you don’t want to be the odd single.
