Register a Boat Trailer with No Title or ID Tag...

Just bought a boat trailer in MS. No title. No license plate. No registration. No VIN # or other identifying marks.
Im aware of the "homemade trailer" process through the State Police but does that only apply to trailers that were built by YOU with NEW parts? Does that process not apply to used trailers with a lost or no title in States that dont title boat trailers(like Mississippi)? What if you were to gather up a bunch of used trailer parts off of Craigslist or LA Sportsman and assembly the trailer yourself? Does LA not provide a means of titling and registering a boat trailer in such a scenario?

Gotta call LSP to come do a physical inspection. Doesn't take 10 mins.
ETA: Or just take it to your closest troop and they will stamp it.

Yeah, it has to have a certain axel, etc. the trooper can tell u if it will pass inspection.

Yes I have. Sounds like you need a physical inspection and not a stamp. Just make sure you have any documents such as the bill of sale. The only time they will stamp it is if it's a homemade trailer.

MS does issue titles for trailers. You have to have a title to get a tag.

No. I need a stamp/VIN issued. I have the bill of sale.

Therein lies the problem. What constitutes "homemade"? If I buy or collect or salvage a bunch of used parts and assemble a trailer isnt that homemade?

OP, I think you're screwed just like me. That's why on craigslist a POS trailer with a La. title costs more than a gorgeous trailer with no title.

I have read accounts on the interwebs of people in similar situations that got them registered and titled either through an act of god at the OMV or they were able to get LSP to stamp their trailers. I havent found anything on older, non-modified trailers without VINs getting titled.
I imagine it can be done through the homemade trailer affidavit but I have yet to hear a legal or even a colloquial definition of what constitutes a "homemade" trailer.
