Do it. Beyond worth it. I would live here if I knew the language. I may get my mom to teach me because she never did when I was young. It's my favorite place on earth. The winter isn't even that bad. It never got below 25 for us. The summers are usually around 65-75 and the natural beauty isn't comparable to any place I have been or seen pictures of. It truly is incredible.

Will it be necessary for me to rent a car? What type of license would I need to get it? Where did you fly out of?

Flew out of Baltimore. Drove up from Atlanta. 4 people in the car so it was cheaper than a flight. No you don't have to rent a car. There is plenty of public transportation and tours that go out of Reykjavik. I find it better to rent a car so you don't have to worry about waiting for others though. I think you just need a regular license? Mine worked just fine.

hard to post pics from my phone but check out Hotel Kakslauttanen in Finland. They have glass top room pods so you can watch the lights.

Search air bnb though. Tons of cheap places to stay when the hotels are usually very pricey. Our two bedroom two bed house was 302 for 2 nights. After fees and everything. Has a hot tub and great driving distance from all the main southern attractions and Reykjavik. If you stay in Reykjavik there is absolutely zero need for a car though. I gotta get some rest though. Gotta be up in 4 1/2 hours to head to the blue lagoon before our flight out tomorrow night.

Yeah I wish I could afford a camera like that. Unfortunately not in the budget right now. These work for me no doubt a BADASS picture though. I'm just glad I could see them. Makes me happier I could get pictures of them to my mom who's mom is from here. She came over for 20 years straight to work on a farm in the summer but has never had the chance to make it in the winter.
It's hard to get a good picture. This one was with tripod and remote, and still get a little fuzzy

"Visit Iceland!" tourism group is doing work on TD. Start us out with some low resolution photos one day and then , BAM, we get this teaser. Tomorrow it will be " okay guys, I rented a Leica S Edition 100 and took some better photos." Photos will be some shite you would see in National Geographic! Reeling us in like a 3oz Bluegill. All I can say is "Hook set!"
