Real Estate Trustee Auctions - Any Experience?

Has anyone on the OT bought high-end real estate at a trustee auction - the kind that happens on a courthouse steps?
It's understood that you've got to check the title for liens, inspect the property, hire a smart attorney and free up a load of cash to cover the bid.
TIA for any advice from personal experience.

I once bought an old home for about 6k. Upstairs in the attic was a chest full of diamonds and gold coins.
