Just a good to hear other people's opinion on the subject.
If I wasn't on the line financially for his stupid driving, I really would do just what Paige said. Having to pay for him if he does something stupid means he either pays for his own insurance or listens. If you don't want him to have a radar detector, as the person responsible for his vehicle and decisions made with that vehicle, he wouldn't have a detector. Everything else is irrelevant at that point.

Are you not allowed to respond to J?
On topic it really doesn't matter. He will do whatever. Just do your part and say be careful and all that b.s.

Good grief.
How about you sack up and say if you want to speed buy your own car and pay your own insurance?
Some of the replies in this thread are really lame.

Again I realize at 18 he will do what he wants. I was only asking how would others feel about the situation. If not saying anything was condoning speeding. It's almost damn if you do or damn it you don't.

No, he'll do what you enable him to do.
"You get a ticket, you're paying your own insurance."
That's it, end of story.

Woooooo. You went to jail for about 6 months or something?

Then stick to it, don't wuss out.
Car accidents are the #1 cause of death for teenagers.
I take a real dim view of parents who dismiss this fact.
"Oh well, whatcha gonna do?"
He'll slow his arse down when he's walking.

She can threaten to stop paying his insurance but he can still buy it and she won't ever know. Don't want to pay his insurance then don't. But an ultimatum isn't going to do shite

He lives at home for now & I'm footing the insurance bill but regardless as his mother I still can & will voice my opinion.
Posted on 7/10/14 at 10:30 pm to WoWyHi
should she take away his phone too?
Posted on 7/10/14 at 10:30 pm to N2cars
Omg. You didn't even address the question
Posted on 7/10/14 at 10:33 pm to tgrbaitn08
That would hurt worse than taking the truck away.

Does she pay for it? I know that he's 18 and by the letter of the law an adult man, but if his parents, or in this case his mom, pays for his stuff sorry but thems the breaks when you're in that transition into adulthood. If he doesn't like it, feel free to pay for it all then mom can't tell you what to do anymore.

He will probably text and drive so buy a camera to monitor his every move
He will also drink and drive more than likely
