This has happened to me twice.
One time when I quit one offshore gig, the guy who gave me a ride back to Lafayette hired me for another offshore gig.
Then when I had enough of the managers crap at Wal-Mart, I told him I could walk across the street to office depot and be employed there before he went to lunch.
Well he called bull shite, and that exactly what happened.*
*I was friends with the office depot manager and he had already been trying to get me to come be his assistant manager.

So yea things happen, and usually work out for the better.

Congrats man. Life is way too short to do something you hate. I drove to work (hour commute) one day last month and just said frick it. Pulled in the parking lot and pulled right back out. Called in sick for two days and on the third day I accepted a job that I absolutely love, with a $5k bump in salary and only a 20 minute drive.
Never ever settle.
Never ever settle.
