Anyone who leaves it open is asking for trouble. Not only do I leave it off, but I store the tank in a large Rubbermaid container with holes drilled into it that is placed at least 100 feet from my home. I also have the tank wrapped in a coat of old phone books that I've collected over the years. One can never be too careful.
