Why don't more aircraft have landing gear like b52's?

The way the entire carriage can be offset seems like a major benefit.

B52

Probably because it's unnecessary and incredibly expensive on passenger planes which are significantly smaller

Because they don't weigh near as much as a B-52 when loaded.

B-52's can't even land fully loaded. They would blow out all tires.

A piece of the answer is that when the plane was designed, there were only a couple of runways that could accommodate the weight of a fully loaded b52. That means that the plane had to land on a given runway no matter what direction the wind was blowing. In a heavy direct crosswind, the aircraft would have to “crab” in sideways because it had to land on the reinforced/long runway. That being the case, it was necessary to be able to angle the wheels to accommodate the harsh angle that the plane had to hold upon touchdown.

Thanks for the answers.

Those b52's are amazing aircraft. I just wish they had not had to destroy some.

lots of airliners bigger than the buff, the castering landing gear is because of the wing span and its proximity to the ground, all transports have a max landing weight and the bigger ones can jettison fuel if necessary
