I'm thinking of buying a vehicle from out of state. The dealership says that the have LA taxes and fees figured into the cost. Does anyone have any experience doing this? I just don't want ant surprise costs.

I have bought two vehicles out of state. One was a pain in the arse because they were stupid. The second one got it right on the first go round.
You need to figure out what your parish taxes are so they take the correct amount.

If they factored in taxes, then they should mail you a check with the paperwork. Bring that to the omv or a tag agent. A tag agent will be faster but you will have a small fee not factored in.
Go over everything when you sign the paperwork. If it's not right have them redo it.

From BTR and bought a car in Houston. Dealer made a call ahead of time and had everything ready to go when I got there.

I just bought one from a dealer in Louisville last week. They made it super easy from start to finish. Delivered vehicle to me and are handling the Louisiana registration And such

I did the out of state thing. Have them send you the filled out paper work before hand. That way you.. know what the true costs are and you aren’t waiting on them.
I flew in to get a vehicle. They picked me up from the airport in it. We went to the dealership and I was on the road 30 minutes later.

I've bought 3 vehicles in Texas and only paid the taxes when I registered the vehicle in La.

The wife recently bought a new Jeep Grand Cherokee in North Carolina. They offered a deal fare better than we could find anywhere in Florida. The transaction went perfectly well and no problems. I was surprised to be honest. Saved over 5,000 on the deal.

I just bought a Landcruiser in Arkansas. Dealer sent me the title and odo statement so I could register and pay taxes at DMV in my parish. Some dealers / states you can pay everything at the dealer. This one didn’t. It was still super easy.

so, when you did the correct legal thing you then, and only then, had to pay

If the dealer knows what they are doing it's usually fine, but can depend on the state your are purchasing from and the state you plan to register in. Some states have reciprocity with other states regarding car sales tax.
I currently live in MA and bought a car in OH. Under MA law, I'm only required to pay the gap between the OH sales tax (5.3% I think) and the MA sales tax (6.125%). I want to say MA had reciprocity with about 40 states but if bought from one of the excluded 10 states I owed full sales tax when registered.

The folks I bought from were like”holy crap, you really pay that much in taxes, you’re getting ripped off”.
