According to that post it seems like everything has African roots, and poor white people were completely culture less before black folk had the good grace to grant us with a personality to steal and call our own.

Gumbo actually began as an African dish. It started out more as an okra stew; okra is native to Africa. Many old folks will tell you you cannot have a "true gumbo" without okra. Okra makes gumbo thick and yummy.
