Back in the day I preferred MapQuest to Google Maps because you could customize the display better and make it easier to read / follow--even though Google Maps seemed somewhat more up-to-date. But when MapQuest sent me down a marginal dirt road between to cane fields in St. James Parish, I was done with it.

Waze is certainly the most effective / up-to-date of any with which I'm familiar. Mostly I just don't like Waze talking to me all the time, so I reserve it for high degree-of-difficulty situations. For normal stuff I like to just look where I'm going and go.
