I'm having a hard time dealing with this.

While I didn't know the man personally, his music was there through my entire youth and even when I graduated high school.

I'm grateful I can say that I saw him in concert once in Tampa (I still have the ticket stub) and he put on an absolutely phenomenal show. Played all the early 80s stuff, just about every song off the Purple Rain soundtrack.

His second encore was Purple Rain and it was incredible.

I will miss him and my thoughts, love, prayers are to his family and friends.

A once in a lifetime talent.

The first time I heard Prince, the song "I Wanna Be Your Lover" was playing on the radio. The DJ mentioned that Prince played every instrument on the album, which is something that always stuck through me.

He was a game changer and ground breaker in many ways. He's one of those who did it "his way" and inspired many others to try to imitate. It didn't matter what race, sex, or ideology Prince was, he was extremely unique and was someone I respected. Haven't read the whole thread but he had some family ties to Louisiana.

Very well said.

I remember playing Adventure on an Atari at a kid's house who lived down the street and we listened to the 1999 cassette.

1999 was such an iconic song. It really conveys the cold war sentiment of the 70's where a lot of young people didn't expect to grow old, so you might as well party life away.

Lemme tell ya somethin'
If U didn't come 2 party,
Don't bother knockin' on my door
I got a lion in my pocket,
And baby he's ready 2 roar
Yeah, everybody's got a bomb,
We could all die any day
But before I'll let that happen,
I'll dance my life away

The feeling of imminent nuclear apocalypse that most of us had accepted was conveyed very well in this song

My favorite line from the song. I always wondered what the sky would look like at night during a nuclear exchange.

Prince was so awesome IMO, not only for his immense talent, but you can't just slap a label on him or lump him into some category, he destroyed boundaries.

Completely agree.

I can't think of another artist that currently comes close.

As a performer, he was hands down the best I've ever seen. I haven't seen many concerts but I am so grateful that I went to see him.

And then from a song writing standpoint. He was incredibly, amazingly talented and wrote a lot of very popular songs for other artists that people don't know he did.

Yes yall check out channel 50 on Sirius. They were even taking calls yesterday for a bit and pp were sharing stories about their experiences or just expressing what his music meant to them.

that superbowl performance really is the best one ever

I didn't really pay attention at the time. But going back and watching it, he killed it. And never missed a beat in the rain. In fact, he owned it. And it actually seemed to focus him more. That little dude threw down in that storm. I'm not big on compliments or celebrity worship...but Prince.

This. There's no telling how many songs we have no clue he was involved in. I'm seeing stories all over now how he help someone with lyrics, music, instrumentals or some part of another great song. I very much appreciate someone who in a master at their art/skill and loves to practice it. Anything I've ever seen him do, he seems to be 100% into. I've never seen a performance of his that appeared that he was just going through the motions. And I always like the fact that he did not give a shite. Prince was Prince, but wasn't a huge a-hole. Just an eccentric dude that did his shite his way.

Right now - folks are only picking up/repeating a tabloid rumor. Let's tap the brakes on this until confirmed. We'll know soon enough. The bad pneumonia would be consistent, as AIDS doesn't kill anyone - it is usually some form of pneumonia that a 10-day old can shrug off.

BUT, I'd recommend not running with this until it is really confirmed.

Prince wasn't even openly bisexual (He distanced himself from Wendy and Lisa because they were a lesbian couple). He did have a string of relationships with girls, but none of his partners ever turned up HIV positive or whatever. He wasn't known to be an IV drug user. I don't know if he got a transfusion, but any recent ones would have been after all the protocols.

So, his "high risk" behavior would be confined to reported promiscuous sexual behavior of a rock star over almost 4 decades. Maybe there was some DL stuff that remains unknown, but not sure how much credibility this has at this point.
