The Follett 7 series machine puts out ice constantly if the bin isn't full, it will make up to 125lbs a day, but only stores 7 lbs in the bin. If you are turning it off you need to give it about an hour to fill up with ice, but it starts making it in about 20 minutes.

This is a pretty timely thread considering I was looking into ice makers this morning. Anyone every try the mid tier makers? They’re like $400-$600 and can hold 30 or so pounds of ice, but apparently can’t store it for long either.

I want mine for weekly fishing trips.

I wouldn't recommend the nugget ice for fishing and filling an ice chest, it will melt faster than some of the larger cube makers and cost more because of the way it shaves the ice and forces it through a tube to make pellets instead of just freezing in a tray.

Thanks. I didn’t mean to imply I was looking at the nugget makers, just wanted to piggyback off of this thread since it was on my mind this morning.
