Parking your fat arse on the interstate catching speeders is relatively easy, until somebody wanted on a murder rap in another state gets pulled over, then things may get a bit dicey, particularly with podunk departments whose sole purpose is writing speeding tickets.

Patrol officers almost never investigate serious crime in any department past collecting initial reports, witness statements and evidence. If the department can’t handle it they call in the Sheriff’s investigators or State.
Most smaller departments have mutual aid agreements with the larger departments in their county/parish.
