The WWL website is AIDS
Yep. Too many ads and popups. Heck sometimes it tells me to disable my ad blocker even though I don’t have one.
I know local TV stations need to make money but there should a better way to leverage content and ads on websites.

This is like my nightmare way to go, in a collapsed tunnel or cave.
Same... When I was a kid we had a fridge delivered to the house and they left the giant arse box it was in.. My brother , the neighbor and I were playing with the box and the neighbor boy and my brother jumped on each end collapsing the box with me inside.. needless to say I had a new fear unlocked that day . So when I read stories like this it gives me very unwanted anxiety.

I have seen enough trench safety videos over my lifetime to know. You don’t need to be buried completely to suffocate.
Sheer Wright of the dirt can prevent you from expanding your chest to take in air. Also just up to waste can kill you as the weight of the soil material can prevent blood flow to the lower body.
On a side note I remember reading about a plumbing contractor in Minnesota installing a water line to a house. They have to bury the pipe deep for freeze protection. Dutch caved in in the plumber in the ditch. His buddy quickly uses the backhoe to try to dig him out. First scoop was his buddy’s head.
This was late 1990s or early 2000s. I was still a plumber while in college st the time myself.

What are the OSHA rules?
Every job site involving an excavation must have what is called a “competent person” who is able to determine the hazards for that particular excavation and what must be done to remediate those hazards. In order to become a designated Competent Person, you have to attend several hours of instruction….just search “OSHA competent person” to see the details. Honestly, it is pretty interesting.

At work they set “boxes” in trenches and holes to prevent this.

Yeah most plants do this for sure, not sure on residential, it's usually more lax on safety.
