Home2 Suites is pretty nice and not very expensive. Located kinda between downtown and Vandy. The Yazoo Brewery tour is pretty good. Also, you can find some pretty good concerts outside of downtown.

I've never been there, but honestly, I've never been anywhere in Nashville, as far as music/entertainment goes, that sucks. There's true talent all over the place.
As others have said, Bluebird Cafe on Hillsboro Rd. is a must, and I love pretty much every place on music row (Broadway),Tootsies being my favorite. It's a tiny dive, but filled with history, and the entertainment has been top notch when I've been.
LINK Bluebird Cafe
LINK Tootsies
Eta - must eat here (Pancake Pantry). The sweet potato pancakes are incredible. There's generally a line & a wait, & yes, it's filled with tourists, but it's still awesome food.

Great BBQ on Broadway:
LINK Jack's
One of the best restaurants ever (steaks):
LINK Jimmy Kelly's

Check out Country Music Hall of Fame and the adjoining Omni Hotel.
Vanderbilt University and the Parthenon. Super Cool!
Avoid Pancake house - hour long line on any day.
Percy Priest Lake
Flying Saucer Bar in Union Station
Music Row
Noshville- excellent NYC deli
City House restaurant in Germantown.
Capital House and farmers market
