Looks really cool, but I don't think I'd ever fly one myself, much less try to build it myself and then fly it.

The accident pilot held a private pilot certificate with a rating for single-engine land airplane. According to the FAA inspector who reviewed the pilot's logbook, the pilot had logged a total of approximately 55 hours. This logged flight time occurred between 1976 and the date of the accident.
This dude had 55 hours of flight time over the course of about 30 years and was trying to fly a kit plane with multiple documented mechanical problems? Unless he just wasn't logging his flight hours.

what is that thing that seems to be spinning around the nose of that airplane, a fly swatter?

"It keeps the pilot cool because they really start to sweat when it stops turning."
Bet you've only heard that a million times!

I have been flying since 1985 and have never heard that one.

Ever thought about a Comanche 250 ? It doesn't have the seats of a Cherokee Six but is a true four person airplane that can do close to 160kts over the ground on less than 15 gallons per hour.
