In 1931, trucks equipped with the new safety device shown in the photo will literally sweep a fallen pedestrian before it and thus save him from being crushed to almost certain death beneath the heavy wheels. The device consists chiefly of a grooved roller mounted on an extension arm in front of the wheels and geared to the engine.
On coming in contact with a fallen pedestrian it tends to roll him ahead till the truck can be brought to a stop. Ordinarily, it projects out in front of the car, serving as a bumper, but is released immediately by the driver when there is a possibility of an accident.

I have a couple of Model A's and I cannot imagine plowing anything with them (even with the low gears). They do not have a lot of power, and the wheels are narrow and don't provide a lot of traction.

It appears to be a Model T, which is even worse. The Model A has 201 c.i. 40 hp motor, the Model T has a 177 c.i. motor which generates 20 hp.
