I am told you can no longer do sumo deadlifts at national powerlifting meets

That's stupid. Why?

I have no idea
A guy I used to train with in Lafayette told me he did a national meet in Texas and they were all told in the competitors meeting that sumo is no longer allowed
I never did a follow up to see if it was true or just something they were trying out, etc....
But I agree... Stupid

Nothing stupid about it. Sumo deadlifts don't require you to move the bar as far. Nothing wrong with them but its to have standardization at meets

No idea
He won at the state meet in Texas and qualified for nationals
It could be an odd organization but this guy takes powerlifting serious
He was on the NCAA champions team at ULL

No shite

At the same time you have people that squat with a very wide stance and 5'2" guys bench pressing 500 plus pounds yet the bar moves three inches.

Might as well dictate grips and stances while we are at it

I get ragged on all the time
I'm 5'6", deadlift sumo and squat wide
I get told I only lift so much because I don't have to move the bar much on deadlift and bench

You can only play in the NBA if you're under 6 feet. Not fair to be closer to the rim.

You are right. Tall guys have advantages at basketball and short guys have advantages at powerlifting.
