I'm telling you (although you know from experience and your job) it is dangerous. Some "nice guy" waved me last week. Had I taken the left I would have most likely been struck by a small vehicle I would not have seen lawfully proceeding in the right lane on a green.
It is truly "The wave of death".

I'm not surprised some people act on "strangers' waves." Maybe they've been conditioned to trust by parents asking them "Is it safe?" when they're driving them around. I know mine used to ask me. Myself, if I can't see, I ain't moving, and I shake my head "No" when someone tries to "help" me.

A woman was killed here a few weeks ago when a truck driver stopped and waved her on as she was pulling out of a driveway.
A few days later I was in a similar situation sitting in the left turn lane. Truck driver in the lane closest to me (his left) stops and waves me on but I couldn't see when cars were coming in far lane.
People think they're doing someone a favor but it's fricking dangerous and slows the traffic down.

No, no they do not. It just never occurs to most people to try and see the world through someone else's eyes.
I live in a highrise in Arlington and we constantly have people parking immediately adjacent to the driveway to our garage. They leave room for us to drive out but not room to see around them to make sure the coast is clear. They do this despite the "No Parking" sign.
A week or so ago some dumbass in a Dodge Ram did this, I got out of my car and politely told him I can't see through him to safely exit my home. His response was "Oh, I never realized, sorry!"

It's true. Never ascribe to malice that which can be attributed to thoughtlessness, or something like that. Ah, "Hanlon's razor."
