What a tragic and significant event in U.S. naval history. Our greatest generation for sure. Shaw was fantastic in Jaws telling the story.

Yes, Hooper got crushed in the cage by the shark in the book and after he'd had an affair with Chief Brody's wife. She cried alone and then clammed up when Chief got home. Not surprising that Spielberg made that revision in the movie.

Hooper slept with Chief Brodie’s wife in the book, I seem to recall?

And Brodie knew when they were out shark hunting on the boat so there was added tension between the two?

I may be wrong, I read the book once in the late 70s I think.

That was a great documentary. I watched it last night. I knew about the sinking and that a lot of the crewmen were taken by sharks but I never knew the full story. I really feel bad for that captain.

I also watched an excellent Nova on the subject of quantum entanglement. That shite is hard to wrap your neurons around.
