It took me a while to get on Shakeology, but I'm glad I did. I've yet to find other meal replacements that have the same ingredients and nutrients as Shakeology. Maybe you can find one, but I haven't. A small meal might have the same calories, but there's no way the small meal can give you the same nutrition as Shakeology can. I just don't want yo look healthy, I want to be healthy.

I bet DrTiggs knows how to do it. Me? I just started both from day 1 . I don't know if that was smart, but oh well. I'm almost done anyways. I'll just be smarter about it the next time around.

Working muscles to failure is the best. I love using my Power Stands for pushups. I'm going to do Incinerator tonight with a 20 pound vest.

All meat and fat.

You must have been very ketotic.

I knew a guy who did that meat only type stuff for a while. He got really, ripped but he made himself go into liver failure.

He was probably only 6% bodyfat, but he turned yellow as a urine sample and his ammonia levels were through the roof. He came very close to putting himself in the hospital.

I've been doing a hybrid of the two for the last month and half or so.

I can send you my schedule if you'd like, but I'd recommend doing both all the way through before doing a hybrid.

Nothing great but I'm just 2-1/2 weeks in.

16 for push-ups then at burnout we'll see what's left. Would like to hit 18 each rep.

28 for bands. No door for the pull-up bar but I've got a plan for attaching the bar to a patio beam. I'll experiment with that tonight and may get pull-ups in.

And out of curiosity, why do the ketogenic diet?

Its easy to drop weight while preserving muscle. Also it is easier because protein and fat are more filling than carbs.

The band's work just fine, but you need a heavier band if you're doing 28.

16 pushups?

Never heard of this. How long was he on the diet? You sure he wasn't taking something that could of caused liver problems?

I think you're right. I've stretched the band out too often. It's old. Time to hit the academy and reload.

Did 14 on the push-ups last week. Got them all until the end. So 2 more is the goal.

Not sure how long, but it had to have been a while.

He went into liver failure ketones are syntehsized in the liver and he basically overloaded it. He wasn't on any other drugs, didn't drink, didn't have hepatitis, etc. When he overloaded his liver he then couldn't excrete ammonia properly because he was ingesting so much protein (ammonia is a product of protein metabolism), it compounded the effect.

NH3 = ammonia

Typically we excrete ammonia with the urea cycle, which is also done in the liver.

ETA: He didn't just eat meat, he had vegetables and fats, but he limited it to just 50g carbs a day and I think just 50g of fat as well. Vast majority of his calories were protein based.

On a true ketogenic diet you consume more of your calories from fat than you do from protein. I just wonder if their were other contributing factors. Low carb diets are very popular and have been around for a long time and I have never heard of this.

It's the only time I've ever heard of it either. I wasn't the one who personally saw him, it was another doctor so there may be some details I missed, but it made sense when I thought about the metabolism.

And it's not that it was just low carb. It was low carb, low fat, high as giraffe nuts protein. Basically ate a carnivorous diet.

From what I understand to much protein can actually keep you from going into ketosis. Interesting regardless. By the way I may disagree with you on some things but I think you do a good job of encouraging people in this thread.

Everybody has different opinions, but you seem to know what you're doing in terms of fitness.

I'm a personal trainer as well as an MD. I like to coach people on the side. I've already got a live club started here in Lake Charles and there's talks of me starting a second one here at the hospital I'm at.
