You've got alot on your plate right now dealing with two more older dogs. I thought she might be your only one. You're right, when you really care for animals it always hurts when they go. But, most animals won't outlive us and we know that going in. You just have to give all the love you have and enjoy all the love they give. It's just not forever, sadly. My hope is that in my idea of Heaven all of my past dogs will be there waiting for me along with all the people I love that have gone before me. God bless you as you deal with the greif!
Thank you brother. Thankfully, the boys are both healthy and doing great but I think what our girl showed us is that as they age, sometimes they can be doing well and one thing starts the cascade effect downward. With that in mind, we're just trying to enjoy and soak up every day without taking anything for granted as far as time goes. I cried my eyes out yesterday when I went to get the boys leashes for a walk and found her old collar in the dogbox, it still smells like her. My wife broke down and sobbed as we went off to sleep last night saying she has no idea how we will be able to do this again with the other two. Perhaps as time goes on and healing happens, we'll find ourselves able to look back on the pain and realize that even though the pain was awful, it didn't kill us. We were able to make it through. All of it is just alot right now so we're trying our best to let the grief do it's thing and figure things out later. We agreed no major decisions like getting another dog until the fog of grief clears a bit.

We put our 14 yo golden down a couple of months ago. Sucked. I still think about that sweet dog almost daily.
