They were the least douchey of all mankind

Idk.

Seriously though. You think you'd prefer 500 or 1000, 2000, to 2500 years ago?

You might want to read some books.

As society grew, more and more social cooperation between larger and larger groups was required. The ability to live and work with less and less fear of the above was a natural result of this.

Modern morality (aka common decency) has a lot more to do with mutual interests than it does inherent moral standards. I don't hurt you, you don't hurt me, lets work together and get better at surviving.

I don't really admire humans, past or present. I think people, in general, are morons. I've been cursed with vastly superior intelligence, and living in this world is a burden. We are animals, we have no souls, and people are inherently evil.

"I think human consciousness, is a tragic misstep in evolution. We became too self-aware, nature created an aspect of nature separate from itself, we are creatures that should not exist by natural law. We are things that labor under the illusion of having a self; an accretion of sensory, experience and feeling, programmed with total assurance that we are each somebody, when in fact everybody is nobody. Maybe the honorable thing for our species to do is deny our programming, stop reproducing, walk hand in hand into extinction, one last midnight - brothers and sisters opting out of a raw deal."
