I didn't necessarily mean that exact model. I just mean the new digital crap is horrible. The old style was much more reliable.

I had a whirlpool washer and dryer that lasted for 18 years minor issues and we just wanted to "Upgrade". Hahaha, yeah right.

Sold the set and regretted it ever since.

So yeah call bs and I know you have a history with appliances, but my personal experience was good.

His 1990's Direct drive washer will outlast any new washer made today, that's how they were built.

this may be why I had good luck with mine. I didn't know they don't make them that way anymore. That sucks.

With all that said, is there anything out there worth anything or is what's available now the new norm?

Speed Queen is the only company that makes things the old way.

Frigidaire units seem to be solid though.

You would think with the way they brag and advertise on their product it would be way ahead of the ones made back then. For such a good looking machine, apparently the quality isnt up to par. Any idea why they stopped making them with such good quality? Is it all about the look now?

Had to meet new standards put in place by the government for energy star compliance. Had to do away with high torque large motors and replace with rotor stator, which actually have a lower fail rate, but rely on component electronics that have a really high fail rate. They put in more sensors and things to break.

Not really much you can do. It's why I generally point people to whatever is cheapest, that way it doesn't sting as much when you have to toss it.

Unless the model number starts with 401, 402 or 592, then it IS a Samsung.

I dunno, maybe there's magic in that Kenmore label.

Buy "dumb" appliances and you won't have that problem.

Another thing that is crap now is water heaters. The one at my old house was 40 years old before it had to get replaced

The only washer and dryer brand I can stand 100% behind is Speed Queen, everyone else has misses.

Will be my next purchase. I actually remember you posting this once before a while ago. I am sold.

Yep.

When we bough our current home in '09, we sold the stacked washer/dryer combo (small laundry room/half bath) and had to buy new. My wife called an appliance repairman she knows and he said, "Buy one without all the bells and whistles, they're junk. Buy an inexpensive Roper or Estate and it will outlast all those fancy expensive ones."

We bought and inexpensive Estate set and have had zero problems.

In fact, those 2 brands have the least amount of repairs according to Consumer Reports.
