If the damage is relatively minor, and it sounds like it is due to the body shop not bothering to remove the bumpers etc, the CARFAX will report it as minor, which once repaired will not affect the value much.

unfortunately it's probably not worth the time or hassle.

We are looking at approximately $3-$4k in repairs, new bumper and rear lift gate. The body shop just didn't remove it to give me an estimate.
I'm glad to hear that it will be reported as minor. I'd be okay with a token amount, I just want something for the loss.
