Just know that there is a breaker switch on the bottom of the disposal, and an Allen wrench socket. Many people think that their disposal is broken when all that is needed is a turn with an Allen wrench to release whatever is stuck, and to switch the breaker

True but he had a bit break off on the grinding plate..... I'd replace it.

GE eh........they and their "Six Sigma" can go eat one! I've had poor experience with GE dishwashers and other appliances. (I know your disposal is probably real old (?), but just wanted to toss a little personal venting about GE into the mix.) Buy a new one - don't bother trying to repair. Disposals are cheap and fairly simple for most moderate do-it-yourselfers.
