2k is nothing to ballers (a couple rental properties can get you that) , but you insist on working 40+ hours and sit in 10+ hours in traffic, complaining about North BTR or whatever. Why do you feel like you have to live here?
You do realize that the people here that really make money don't do any of that shite, right?

Rent is 57% lower than BTR

Rent to buy is different on those areas. Here 150k in 1k/month. There 150k is 500/month.
Families will own homes and not sell as often as here which bumps purchase price, but without an increasing population, construction is low and vacancy is higher yeilding lower rents.

I'm ALWAYS looking for our retirement town on google earth. I pray that I have the balls to pull up anchor and move to a place like that when the time comes. One thing is for certain though, we will NOT retire here in BR.

The issue that keeps me out of Asia is airfare. I read that you aren't supposed to take SS for times you are out of the US for more than 30 days.
Central/South America has $2-300 round trip puddle jumps that allow you to touch base in say Miami or San Diego for a few hours each month. Now it's self reported, but assume by the time Im eligible for SS, people will be tracked and you can't "live full time" in another country while getting direct deposit.
