"Only 2 Items Remaining" When Purchasing Something

It seems like, just about every time I purchase something online, whatever I am buying, there are only a few of that item remaining.
Is that bullshite and they put it there so that, if you are thinking about it, when you see it, you will think "I better go ahead and get it because it might not be available tomorrow"?

I usually buy 3. Just to be safe.

If it's wheelchair components, I bet that violates the handicap people law.
