The "phone" that most adults carry in their pockets to check instagram is a computer with 100,000 times the processing speed and about a million times the RAM of the guidance computer that put Apollo 11 on the moon in 1969.

I would disagree. The farther back in time you go, the less drastic the changes will be per 100 years. In 1823, a man’s life would probably be very familiar to a man from 1723.

Yes, change is exponential....but my point was that a person born in 1623 who lived to see 1723 would have been amazed at the changes in that period...as amazed as someone born in 1923 will be amazed at the changes in 2023. Its a matter of perspective. A child born this year will witness unimaginable changes in the next 100 years and will be of the opinon that the changes experienced in the last 100 were nothing in comparison, and that child would probably be correct. Its all a matter of perspective...

Not really. There were huge advances, like gunpowder and steel, but people's way of life could stay largely the same from generation to generation over most 100 year periods. Older generations being left behind by their children and grandchildren technologically is a very new phenomenon.

The crazy thing about it is that we are advancing exponentially, rather than linearly.
