On October 7, 1571 European Catholic League defeated the Ottoman Turks in the greatest naval battle in history, halting the spread of islam into Europe.

Led by Don Juan of Austria the Catholic fleet, greatly out numbered, defeated the Turk navy which was terrorizing the mediterranean coast.

Pope Pius the V warning Europe of the violent spread of Islam had assisted/ bank rolled the European fleet. Pius V also had urged all of Europe to pray the Rosary for the intercession of Mary for victory against the larger Turk fleet. It is said that Pius the V saw the naval battle in a vision from his papal office. Pius V was able to announce in that very moment victory of the Eureopean fleet days before official word got to Rome.

Our Lady of Victory, Pray For Us!!!

Just read about that. Reading about the history of Spain from 1492 to 1763.

Semi-off topic:

Very interesting account of the slave trade and usage of the usage of the local Central and South American natives before importing blacks from Africa. Slavery has happened since the beginning of time.

Continue on topic. On this day-1571...

Awesome info.

Looks like Spain had other major concerns other than the new world/France and England
