Does anyone work or know a nurse that works in Same Day Surgery (Baton Rouge General) or the Inpatient Postoperative Surgery unit (OLOL). My nursing school doesn't do a clinical rotation in surgery, and I would really love to job shadow in either of these units.

Have you tried calling those departments yourself? Ask for a nurse supervisor.

I tried one of the units, and no one ever picked up. I could have been transferred to the wrong area though.

Sounds like a shitty nursing school if they don't have a surgical rotation for their students.
And any students we had at any hospital I've worked at was always an arrangement with the school and the hospital.
Maybe try contacting the hospital's education department.

FMOL-HS has clinical rotations that aren't always just OLOL college students.

Seriously though...people pay $$$$ for these nursing programs. A surgical rotation should be included with their nursing education, even if it is just being able to observe a few surgical cases. Or make it optional for those nursing students that have an interest in possibly working in the OR/PACU. The OP shouldn't have to be the one to do all the legwork to be able to have a surgical rotation. OP should be able to go to their advisor at school and have them make this a reality.
