This is the most damning reason IMO.
Cost of living is higher than many other places that have better quality of life indicators.
Think I convinced my older daughters husband to make the move last night. Gonna get a compound which we will all live on up here.

Think I’m going to go this route too. Moved away beginning of the year and I’ve been kicking myself for not doing it sooner. And I’m not even in a desirable place in TX comparatively speaking. I think the biggest eye opener for me was all the people leaving their windows down at Walmart while they shopped. One would never think of doing something like that in BR.
