I fractured my kneecap in half almost a decade ago. I didn't have any ligament or tendon issues so I did not undergo surgery but my leg was in a splint and I was on crutches for two months with another month of rehab on top of that. Scar tissue still gives me trouble from time to time and I need to extend my leg to make my kneecap pop if I am sitting for too long but no pain and I can run normally. Sounds like she has it worse than I did though

Knew a lady in her 50's that split hers, had surgery and died about 6days later from a blood clot.

I dislocated and broke mine in high school, although it wasn't right down the middle. Also partially tore the ACL. Had 2 surgeries to put screws in the patella to put the broken piece in place. I was back to playing sports after 4-5 months.
