I did off Destin. The lights were pretty. Then I noticed they didn't look the same, and that pier just off to my right was nowhere to be seen. I ended up a mile down the beach from where I started.

Great idea. All of the fish are asleep and won't bother you.

I've done it in Cape San Blas many times. Not deep and when water is calm. Terrific. You even get a little bioluminescence there. Did it in Vieques too. Went out into bioluminescent bay in a kayak and jumped in. No sharks but still freaky and awesome.

If you've ever done any night fishing in the ocean then you know for a fact that sharks are more active at that time.

I've done it a more than a few times on calm nights in South Padre. As long as the water is calm and the moon is bright, I see no issue with it.

absolutely. in fact, we do some sunset paddling in St. Joe Bay, and they're everywhere.

I was saying there are no sharks in the bioluminescent bay in Vieques. But, uhm, that's a lie upon googling. Some girl was attacked there doing exactly what I did. I'm glad i didn't know (well, i was there 4 years before the shark attack). Everyone I talked to at the time said shark attacks never happen there. holy shite! Maybe we were in a different area.

The murky areas of the Mosquito Bay area where Strunk and her tourist group were kayaking, however, act as a nursery for several species of sharks, including tiger, nurse, reef and hammerheads.
