New York metro area has over 50,000 cases of Covid-19.

That is 40% of the cases in the entire United States.
How can not closing the subway be sane at this point? They have closed some lines leaving the rest packed.
This event is going to destroy New Orleans economically in a way that may make Katrina look like a light rain. But New York may also take a knockdown bigger than 9/11 if they do not figure this out.

You may be right. Lock away the old and infirmed and have a hugfest with everyone else.
If they do not develop a vaccine the hardest hit cities could theoretically be better off in future years.

Sounds like a great idea until you realize public transportation is the only way healthcare workers, grocery store workers, etc. can get to work.

It is because people in big cities live very close together. Much easier to transfer the virus that way. Much more difficult in rural and suburban areas due to shorter exposure times and incidents.
