This would not have happened in the house I grew up in. Giant fight would have ensued. Dad would have taken dog back and probably ruined relationship with neighbor forever.

Why don't you call them right now and tell them you can't do it anymore? Make up some shite. How hard is that?

There is dog boarding that they can pay for themselves and the dog will be well taken care of.
