Used to run Pawn shops. Here is my advice. Shop around at several places to find the best deal. Straight Cash Hommie will help get a better price. If possible buy a GIA certified stone. Once you get to a G colored stone which is the first rung of colorless IMO it’s not worth paying the premium to go any higher. Also when clarity gets to SI 1 or VS2 you can stop. At those clarities any defects will only be seen with a jewelers loupe. 14kt gold mountings are the best choice. 18K is too soft and prongs will wear faster and need more maintenance. Don’t trust any paperwork that is not GIA.

Go GIA only.

If it’s Round cut stone, go F-G color and VS1.

If it’s Emerald cut stone go E-F color and VVS1-VVS2.

Platinum setting requires the more colorless stone, and is worth the money.

I don’t like Emerald cuts they look flat since they have fewer facets. But yes if you go Emerald you are gonna pay more cause you can see every flaw due to less facets. You have to go VVS on them. I would go Cushion or Princess if you want a square stone, Round is always classic.

Find a Diamond wholesaler.

Buy direct from them.

You’ll save a bunch
