The ER is always an option. Most hospitals have an emergency dentist that they can call. Give them a call before driving down there.

We've got the piece of the tooth in a cold glass of milk. Somebody else told me that would be good.

Father of the year. Take your kid to the hospital.

Yep, so they can give the kid some ibuprofen and tell him to see his dentist asap. Sounds a little spendy, no?

Unless he is swollen or has a laceration, they won't do anything.

I have a close friend that runs a dentist office. They normally have openings and they take emergencies. if you still haven't gotten in touch with anyone by the morning let me know.

Every dentist should have an answering service or a emergency contact number. If they are out of town they should have another dentist covering for them. Here in Florida it is considered abandonment not to have coverage and you could be sued.

This is true but only for patients of record that have been seen in the last 2 years (I am being generous here).

I am always available for my patients when they need me and I remind them of this. I rarely get calls after hours or on the weekend though.

I think people need to understand that regular dental appointments are not only an integral part of a healthy lifestyle, but also insure that you will get the help that you need during inconvenient times.

That being said, I went in two Sundays ago to re-cement a veneer (not done by me) on a patient. She was thrilled since her inlaws were in town and taking them to Cir de Solieu (sp), and I didn't charge her because I don't know how to work the credit card machine.
