There have been plenty of studies on the difference between the two, and the data says they are much different. Alcohol heavily affects your motor skills in a way that marijuana does not. Movies create a hilariously overblown picture of how people act and react when they smoke weed.

Correct, movies have turned marijuana into a thing people associate with super troopers or hang over type of movies. But, to say marijuana does not affect driving is silly.
The biggest misconception about marijuana is, unlike alcohol, marijuana can impair certain attributes up to 24 hours. People believe smoking will lower everything and make you driver slower. When in fact, most of the known crashes and fatalities involving THC are related to speed.
