I stick with John Deere myself. I have a 60" commercial model , way out of your price range, but they make a few models under $2K.

Are you kidding me?
I've had my 46" cub cadet for two years now. Changed the oil once so far. That cost about $30. I use maybe 10 gallons of gas a year. That's $20. I'm cutting my lawn that sits on just over 1/2 acre, house taking up about 1/2 of that.

How are you spending $200/yr on a residential lot?

OP get a cub cadet. 42" is fine and fits through gates, 46" does not. I have a big gate so 46" is what I got. Great price and reliable. Has the best turning radius of the non zero turns I believe. Only thing that sucks is you have to siphon the oil out to change it, which is f'in retarded.

I debated on pushing my lot b/c thats what I have always done. Glad I got a riding mower. I can cut my grass in 30 minutes. My neighbor has a self propel push mower and it takes him 2 hours. Granted if he was in awesome shape and took zero breaks, he could do it in about an hour 15.

I have 1/3 of an acre and the lot is flat. I grew up with the old clutch manual transmissions, should I get one of those? We never had transmission issues

Actually, I've found a few different manufacturers and models that offer the old school transmission. There aren't many being made though

I can do a wheelie on my cub cadet with its hydrostatic transmission.
