Sounds like a guy who eats at Chili's and doesn't go to any festivals or try anything different who just wants to complain.

I don't go out to eat Italian food very much but I've heard good things about Marcello's Cafe if that's what you're in to.

My wife is from Lafayette and this is spot frickin on.

I've lived there and a couple other places. I've got my pros and cons, too.

They have some pretty nice people over there, but you can tell many don't get out of Acadiana, much. I guess for everyone else around the state looking in, it is pretty comical how different they are from the wrest of the state. The whole red's/guido culture is something you'll have to get used to quick if you're younger.

I guess what my friend Snatchy is getting at is that it's very easy to stand out if you don't fall in line with the Lafayette mold. Lafayette guys like to get into pissing contests about how much money they make, who they know, how in shape they are or better yet, how much they know about the oilfield.

Lived in the Lafayette area my whole life. I know a lot of people who work around the oilfield and I don't really know anyone who fits that mold.

There's always going to be people who like to talk about how much money they make, just tacky people. Ever read a plant operator thread on the OT? Each town has their version of the plant operator or offshore worker. Sounds like you're just friends with jackasses to me.

The younger Lafayette crowd has turned very hipster in the past 5-10 years. The "guido crowd" are the middle aged offshore workers who gel their hair and go to BWW to watch the UFC fight or go to Cowboys.

I'm not trying to make any enemies. This guys an outsider coming in, just giving him the perspective of another outsider who jumped in. Just giving him a run down. And you are spot on about every town having their own version of oilfield trash.

Like I said, I'm married to a girl from Lafayette, I obviously like the culture and the people. I think we can agree though that the town eats up fads and still is small town USA with everyone (for the most part) knowing everyone to some extent.

Lafayette people love new restaurants, that I can agree on. Even if the shite isn't any good, it'll be packed for weeks.

If you're looking for good, authentic Italian food in Lafayette: Mangia Italian Bistro. The dude is fresh off the boat from Italy, menu can change day to day depending on what he wants to cook. It's on Johnson in a strip center and not the easiest place to find, but really great food.

I grew up in Lafayette...great town to grow up in, but I have no desire to live there again. Just out grew it and prefer bigger cities. And while there are some good restaurants and it seems a few more every time I visit home, I still say the best food is cooked at someone's home or found at a gas station/butcher shop.

If you're born and raised in Laffy, you really need to get out and try something different...you can go back later if you want. If you're new to the town - enjoy it - lots of nice, very friendly, fun people and they'll serve up some good food.

I'd agree with that. I stand out like a sore thumb when I go out for drinks. Mainly because I have a button down on and 9 times out of 10 wear a sports coat. I wear just regular Levi's jeans and not something flashy, which a lot of guys (guido or not) do around here. You also don't see me wearing a big white watch or white sunglasses.

I dress like an adult, which may seem rare for a 25 year old in this city.

The majority of women don't really care for the tee shirt and white accessories, guido look, from what I gather.

It honestly just depends on the places you frequent.

You go to Buffalo Wild Wings, you get Buffalo Wild Wings people.

Macaroni Grill is a prime example.

ETA: Was the same in BR.

Bingo. It's just the peacock/look at me stuff, though. I call those guys 'Shane'... your stereotypical offshore worker, in off a hitch for a week, maxes out his credit for a monster truck F250 so he can look like a "boss", doesn't go out with guys from work because he likes to drop "company man" as his job title, etc etc. It's just for grins, I've never come across anyone that fits that description. It's more of an embellishment of the stereotype everyone else has about Lafayette.
